Salted Caramel Slice by the Tasty Twins

Here at Flo, we have a slight (aka major) girl crush on Emily and Sophie Martin, twins studying in Dunedin, who are passionate about tasty food, health and wellbeing.

 The twins inherited their love for food from their family, and channeled it into creating an Instagram account dedicated to healthy baking in 2017. They've used their instagram @tastytwins, to empower students to try out new recipes, and to achiever better overall well-being. Their fun, authentic nature has attracted thousands of kiwis to their platform. 

 

They've kindly shared with us their favourite salted caramel slice recipe that is easy, tasty, vegan and can be made without gluten. Enjoy!

Salted Caramel Slice

Ingredients

Base

2 cups ground almonds/oats

3 tbsp maple syrup

3 tbsp melted coconut oil

1 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 tsp salt

Caramel

1/2 cup tahini

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 can coconut cream

2 tbsp melted coconut oil

2 tbsp maple syrup

1 tbsp melted coconut oil

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp salt

Chocolate Topping

3/4 cup melted dark chocolate

3/4 cup coconut cream

METHOD

  1. In a bowl combine all the base ingredients. Pat into the bottom of a lined loaf tin and place in the freezer while you make the caramel.

  2. Combine all the caramel ingredients in a bowl and pour on top of the base layer. Set in the freezer for 2 hours.

  3. Remove from the freezer and combine the chocolate topping ingredients in a bowl. Pour on top of the caramel and set in the freezer for 2 hours.

  4. Remove from the freezer and let it defrost for 5-10 minutes and slice with a warm knife.
