Girl bosses behind our fav ethical edit fashion brands

In light of International Women's Day on the 8th of March, we're celebrating some of the incredible women behind some of our favourite brands, and how they are inspiring us through their work in the fashion industry, prioritising ethical and sustainable manufacturing. These women are championing the industry, to strive for better standards - looking after the makers and mother nature.

Ebony, of Auguste the Label

“It has been apparent to me for a long time that if you are using the world’s resources, you should be doing something to replenish them. In the beginning, I was driven by wanting to succeed as a young woman in the business world, but now I’m definitely more driven by being a good role model to my two children and leaving the world a better place for them.”

- Ebony, founder

Jodie, of Bird + Kite

"The same core values from my upbringing are reflected in our brand values at Bird & Kite. Our ethical practices and codes of conduct are driven by my own personal values. To be conscious of our choices. To understand their impact on people and our planet. To lighten our footprint. To waste nothing. To consume less. To respect the makers. To keep traditional artisan culture alive. To live slow. To encourage and inspire others to be the change this worlds needs us to be so very desperately now."

Rebekah, of Nobody Denim

McQuoid’s own denim journey has taken her to New York and London to collaborate with boutique makers along with the biggest names in the industry. But it was a desire to return home and work for a company with ethics at its core that brought her to Nobody Denim. “Full transparency makes you feel so much lighter,” she explains. “It makes it easier to make decisions [when] we’re all working towards the same thing. It’s definitely the only way forward in every area of design so I feel very good that we have a head start on that, and a clear focus.”

Erica, of ReCreate Clothing

"Together with our amazing design and operations team of Marielle, Lauren, Ashleigh, Charlie and Erana, we are continually working towards providing even more training and employment opportunities for marginalised people in Cambodia. And together with you, our customers, we will change the face of the garment industry. Together, we will transform lives."
