Flo's fave affordable food spots in Queenstown & Wanaka

With international travel out of the question, it seems the country is falling in love with our most adored destinations such as Wanaka and Queenstown. Whilst the cost of flights is kinder to our wallets, it's no surprised that eating out sees a big dent in ones savings. We've put together a concise list of the best places to grab a bite during the day, that also won't cost an arm and a leg.

Charlie Brown Crepe Caravan  - Wanaka

Favourite thing to order: The vegan and gluten-free 'gourmande crepe' which has banana, chocolate and almonds (also available non-vegan) - it's a sweet breakfast lovers dream.

Best time to go: Mid-morning for an indulgent breakie.

Bespoke Kitchen Cafe - Queenstown

Favourite thing to order: Their infamous 'breakfast board' for when you can't choose! This beauty comes with a piece of avo and egg on toast, a mini chia pot and housemade kombucha.

Best time to go: Lunchtime, to fill your belly!

Pembroke Pattiseire - Albert Town

Pembroke Patisserie create a range of classic patisserie offerings, including their now-famous pastries, doughnuts and savouries. You can also choose freshly made sandwiches, handmade chocolates and fresh breads from the cafe, as well as delicious Allpress coffee and specialty drinks – seven days a week.

Favourite thing to order: If you're there to pick up bread for the week, the rustic wholemeal seed load (pictured below) is a big hit, but if you're there to sit and eat, their doughnuts seem to be the crowd fave.

Best time to go: 3pm for an arvo pick me up!

Big fig - Locations in Wanaka and Queenstown

Big Fig is owned by a food-obsessed family, inspired by their Lebanese heritage. They have a changing menu of slow-cooked meat like lamb shawarma and pomegranate beef cheeks, yummy vegetarian and vegan tagines, stuffed veggies, stews, and braises. Their salads are grainy and greenie, roasty and tasty, herb-filled and jammed with flavour.

Favourite thing to order: Anything! It's a gourmet deli that serves beautiful slow cooked veg and protein where up a plate of your faves!

Best time to go: Dinner time

Good Day cafe (Arrowtown) -  comfort food and crowd favourites.

Erik's Fish & Chips Food Truck (Wanaka & Queenstown) - a great take on classic Kiwi food. 

Lord of the Fries Food Truck (Queenstown) - vegan comfort/fast food at it's best.

Fergburger (Queenstown) - bakery plus a burger bar most known for their tasty burgers.

Madam Woo (Queenstown) - Asain fusion at it's best

Yonder Cafe & Restaurant (Queenstown) - Funky fit out and delicious menu.

At Thai (Queenstown) - Cheap, cheerful and tasty Thai with deals all through the week.
